A Library and a Windmill
A friend shared this wonderful YouTube clip with me. It is about a man from Malawi who wanted to give his family electricity. He did not know what or how to obtain the desired electricity, but he knew where to go to get the answers – the library. From the library, he borrowed a book about windmills and, with his desire, a library book, and innovation, William Kamkwamba was able to bring electricity to his family.
William’s success is a library success. Public library brand which includes providing information and helping those who need it proved to be the start of a life changing moment.
Since his accomplishment at fourteen years old, William has taken part in workshops, like the TED Convention and has written a book, “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.” Libraries can change lives and we need to be reminded of this while sharing this fact with your community. Success stories, like this one can most likely be found in your community and shared.
Reach out and learn how your library has changed a life and share it with others through social media, like YouTube or through your site.
I hope that your library has this book in its collection. I think it will be a great addition and maybe a point of enlightenment for someone in your community.
